Hill of Crosses


From the first group of crosses were put up in memory of insurgents killed in the 1831 rebellion, the numbers have steadily increased despite being razed, burned and melted down during the communist era. It is now estimated that ca. 100,000 crosses have been placed by pilgrims on this site.
